How to Stop Binding Mid-Reload

Reloading ammunition can be an enjoyable hobby and, depending on the amount of ammo you use, add up to significant savings over purchasing factory ammunition. Done properly, reloaded ammunition can be as safe and accurate as factory loaded rounds. Due to the pressure caused by the expanding gases of burning gunpowder, for best results brass cases should be resized before reloading. To prevent the cases from sticking in the resizing die, and binding in mid-reload, the brass needs to be lubricated prior to resizing.

Instructions

Set up the reloading press and install the resizing die and shell holder according the manufacturer's instructions.

    • 2

Rub a light coating of resizing lube over the entire outside of the brass casing with your fingers. Pay special attention to the neck and shoulder of the casings when applying resizing lube.

Insert the shell into the shell holder in the press.

    • 5

Move the ram arm back to the top of its stroke above the press, then bring the ram arm all the way down so the casing becomes fully inserted into the resizing die.

Move the ram arm back to the top of its stroke again and remove the resized case from the press.
