Instructions for SIG Replacement Triggers

The SIG Sauer P226 is a double action, semi-automatic hand gun designed in Germany, with the first prototype made in 1980. The gun was originally designed as a sidearm for the US military, although Beretta ultimately won the contract with its M92. The SIG Sauer P226, and its successors, the P228 and P229, are the weapon of choice for target shooting enthusiasts. If you find that the trigger action on your P226 is not suited to your style, you can replace the SIG trigger with a shorter trigger.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the magazine from the gun's grip and check that there is no ammunition in the chamber.

    • 2

Turn the take-down lever (situated on the top of the gun barrel) so that it faces downward. This will release the slide mechanism and you can remove the slide by pushing it forward. Keep it in a safe place.

    • 3

Remove the take-down lever. Pull it out to the left. You may have to twist it slightly to get it out.

    • 4

Hold the hammer (located at the top back of the gun) while pulling the trigger. Make sure that you are not pointing the gun at anyone. Lower the hammer slowly once you have pulled the trigger.

    • 5

Locate the locking insert (next to the take-down lever, on the top left of the gun barrel) and remove it by pushing it up and forward. This will release the left grip. Remove the left grip and place it on your working surface.

    • 6

Remove the trigger bar spring, located over the trigger mechanism and the trigger pivot pin, which can be extricated from its position by pushing it out to the left.

    • 7

Cock the hammer and remove the trigger and trigger bar. You will have to tilt the trigger slightly to the left so that it can be removed. Wiggle it to loosen it from its position, but don't force it. Take the old trigger off the trigger bar and replace it with the new, shorter trigger.

    • 8

Ensure that the hammer remains cocked and place the trigger and trigger bar back into the same position. A little wiggling may be necessary to clear the frame.

    • 9

Follow Steps 2 through 6 to reassemble the Sig Sauer. Test out your new trigger at the firing range.
