How to Test a Rabbit Snare Without Catching a Rabbit
Once you have your snare set up, it's important to test it before relying on it to catch a rabbit, especially if you are planning to use the animal you catch as food. Testing a snare is simple once you have the right stick to use, and resetting most snares is easy, since they can simply be re-wired and put in place again.
Things You'll Need
- Snare
- Large twig
- Large stick
- Extra wire

1
Check each part of your snare to make sure all the pieces are in place. Make sure the trigger is resting lightly on its hold. Assess the surrounding area to be sure it leads the rabbit to the snare. Move brush, sticks and leaves to encourage the rabbit towards the snare.
-
2
Take your small stick and insert it into the loop, and then apply some pressure to the trigger. Watch how high the flexible part of the trap springs.
-
3
Repeat the previous step with a larger stick. Assess how large you need to make the loop for the type of rabbit you'd like to catch, and check how much weight the spring of your snare can hold.
-
4
Adjust the loop and the trigger as necessary. Test again, if needed.
