How to Install a Ten-Gauge Choke Tube
Shotgun chokes install in the muzzle end of a shotgun barrel. The choke reduces, or constricts, the diameter of the barrel to alter the shot pattern. The greater the constriction, the tighter the pattern. When a choke increases the constriction of the barrel, the resulting forces increase the recoil during the shot. Chokes are installed into a 10-gauge shotgun by inserting the choke into the muzzle end and screwing the choke into the threads until secure.
Things You'll Need
- Choke
- Gun oil
- Cleaning solvent
- Soft cloth patches
- Flashlight
Instructions
-
-
1
Place a small amount of gun oil on the threads of the choke to be installed.
-
2
Clean the muzzle end of the barrel with barrel cleaning solvent. Wipe the interior of the barrel clean with soft cloth patches. Inspect the inside of the barrel with a flashlight to be sure the threads are clear of debris.
-
3
Insert the choke into the muzzle end of the barrel and twist to engage the threads on the choke with the threads in the barrel.
-
4
Continue turning the choke until it is fully seated in the barrel. Depending on the size of the choke, the end of the choke may be flush with the end of the barrel or extend from the barrel.
