1
Unload the weapon completely. Pull the bolt to the rear. Visually inspect the chamber to ensure that no live ammunition is present.
-
2
Secure the weapon in a padded gun vise. Ensure that the receiver is unobstructed and accessible to work.
-
3
Set the scope mount onto the receiver where you need the scope to be positioned. Mark the hole placement using the scope mount as a guide.
-
4
Consult the thread/screw drill-tap chart. Cross reference the screw and thread diameter for the screws provided with the scope with the tap and drill measurements. This will show you what size drill bit and tap to use for the screws you have.
-
5
Apply cutting oil to the drill bit. Place the drill onto the marked holes. Drill to the specified depth for each hole corresponding to the scope mount dimensions. Note that all scope mounts vary. Scope mounting instructions will have depth specifications listed.
-
6
Insert the tap tool into the hole. Turn the tap handle counterclockwise 1/8 turn, then back it out. Repeat the process turning the tap 1/8 inch further each time then backing it out until the hole is completely threaded. This will ensure that the threads are cut precisely.
