How to Fit a Smith & Wesson Revolver Grip Into a Colt Revolver

Not all Smith & Wesson revolver grips can be adapted to fit Colt revolvers. You first need to find a grip that very nearly matches the existing grip you want to trade out. In addition, you also must utilize the same grip attachment screw, making it more likely to fit the Smith & Wesson grip without having to drill new holes.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the original grips from the Colt revolver by removing the screw that holds them on the frame with a flat screwdriver. Do not throw these away, as you will have to use them to make the Smith & Wesson grips fit on the Colt.

    • 2

Align the center screw hole of the Smith & Wesson grips with the screw hole on the Colt grips. If the Smith & Wesson grips line up perfectly with the Colt grips, then you can install the grips without modifying them. If not, however, you will have to trim some of the grip material to make it fit correctly.

    • 3

Screw each of the Smith & Wesson grips to the opposite Colt grip so that the flat section of the grips are butted up against one another.

    • 4

Sand the perimeter of the Smith & Wesson grip with a drum sander fitted to a Dremel tool until its outline precisely matches the outline of the Colt grip.

    • 5

Separate the grips from one another. Screw the Smith & Wesson grips onto the frame of the Colt revolver.
