How to Put a Sleeve in a Jet Ski

After long periods of riding without engine maintenance, your jet ski motor's cylinders are likely to stop working. When this happens you may find yourself in the process of rebuilding your jet ski motor. One important aspect of rebuilding a jet ski motor is properly installing the cylinder sleeve. This is the plastic cover that sits on top of the cylinder assembly, and keeps moisture from getting inside the cylinders.

Instructions

    • 1

Release the jet ski's hood latch, and open the hood to reveal the top side of the engine.

    • 2

Locate the cylinder sleeve, which is the main plastic cover on top of the engine when you first open the hood.

    • 3

Disconnect the two air suction valve hoses near the center of the sleeve. Unplug the two breather hoses on each end of the sleeve. Disconnect the four spark plug wires from the cylinder sleeve.

    • 4

Loosen and unscrew the seven cylinder sleeve bolts with a 1/2-inch socket. Grasp each end of the cylinder cover and lift if off of the engine to reveal the cylinder assembly.

    • 5

Place the new sleeve onto the cylinder assembly. Fasten the replacement sleeve to the engine, using the seven, 1/2-inch bolts you just removed. Reconnect the spark plug cables, air suction valve hoses and breather hoses through the newly installed cylinder sleeve.

Pull the hood closed and latch it shut.
