  1. Jet Ski With Two People

Fasten your life vests and climb aboard. You may need to help your friend onto the jet ski if he or she is unfamiliar with water sports. Don’t be afraid to ask your friend to help hold the jet ski while you unclip it from the dock and insert the key.

    • 2

Communicate. Tell your friend how to hold on to you while you are riding the jet ski together. The novice jet skier should always be on the back of the jet ski. It is unsafe to allow the first time jet skier to drive the jet ski as they have yet to become familiar with the way the jet ski moves and responds to changes in acceleration, turns and water conditions. You should both be facing forward. Let your passenger know that they can tell you to slow down or stop if they like.

    • 3

Start slow. Be aware of the age, body type and overall physical health of your passenger. Taking these elements into consideration, introduce them by increasing speed in slow increments so they feel comfortable. Tell your friend when you are going to take your first turn, decreasing the speed of the jet ski prior to initiating the turn. This will allow him or her to get comfortable with the motion of the jet ski and give you an idea of your friends capabilities.

    • 4

Increase your speed and continue to jet ski. This is a good time to show your friend a good time while you learn how much fun jet skiing with two people can be. Try jumping a small wave and continue to practice your turns. Remember to pay attention to your friend’s body language for signs of how well they’re doing. The steadier they are, the faster the two of you can go. If you feel your friend moving around a lot behind you, grappling for their balance, take it down a notch until they are steady at greater speeds.
