1
Rinse off the kayak after each saltwater paddling trip. Wash it with a sponge and soapy water. Rinse off the soap and salt after the washing. Let the kayak air dry.
-
2
Spray the kayak with a plastic protectant spray once a season. Rub the protectant on the kayak with a rag. Use a UV protectant spray, if possible.
-
3
Remove the storage hatches, and push them into the storage areas. Leave them open so air circulates during storage.
-
4
Place the kayak onto the side of the hull, and lean it against a wall to prevent the plastic form denting during long storage periods. Wrap the kayak loosely in a tarp, and store it out of the sun in a cool, dark and dry location. Push foam chunks up against the kayak to hold it against the wall.
-
5
Put some silica gel packs, which are available at hobby shops, into the storage and cockpit hatches to absorb moisture and prevent mold and mildew during storage.
