How to Make a Kayak Rod Leash

Kayaking is an ideal activity for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy both paddling on the water and fishing. Fishing from a kayak allows you to get out in the open water, or further upstream where shoreline fishing may be difficult. When fishing from a kayak, the last thing you want to have happen is your fishing pole falling overboard. A fishing rod leash can be used to secure your fishing pole to the vessel. Making a kayak fishing rod leash can be accomplished with little difficulty.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a piece of 550 paracord to your preferred length for the leash. The leash can be as long as you need it to be.

    • 2

Hold a lighter under the ends of the cord. Pinch the ends shut. This will prevent fraying.

    • 3

Tie the one end of the paracord to a carabiner. Clip the carabiner to the kayak vessel at your preferred location.

    • 4

Tie the other end of the cord to the swivel on a swivel gate-clasp. Clip the gate clasp to your fishing pole.
