How to Change a Giant Bicycle Tire

Giant Bicycles produces a variety of mountain, road and touring bicycles. Almost all of its products use inner-tube based tires. Like any tires, these bicycle tires wear down over time necessitating the need to swap out for new. Change your Giant bicycle tire in a few minutes of time in your own workshop, saving you money at a repair shop.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the quick release lever in the center of the wheel and turn clockwise to drop the wheel out of the bicycle frame. Remove the wheel.

    • 2

Unscrew the nozzle cap and deflate the inner-tube completely. Insert one tire lever between the rim and tire. Pry the rubber from the tire up and off the rim. Slide the lever around the edge of the tire to pry the entire side of the tire from the rim.

    • 3

Grip the tire with both hands and pry the other side of the tire edge off the same side of the rim you pried the first tire edge off. Pull the tire away and off the rim. Pull the inner tube out of the tire.

    • 4

Inspect the inner tube to ensure there are no leaks. If no leaks are present use this inner tube with the replacement tire.

    • 5

Push the new tire onto the rim of the wheel. A new tire is tight and stiff. Pry the tire onto the rim using the levers, if needed. Push only one side of the tire onto the rim. Once on, pour a little baby powder onto the inner tube for viscosity and slide into the tire.

    • 6

Slide the inner tube to push the nozzle out through the rim's nozzle hole. Push the entire tire onto the rim encasing the inner tube between tire and rim. Inflate the inner tube and put the wheel back onto the bicycle.
