How to Adjust the Suspension on a Mongoose XR100

Mountain bikes are ridden over rugged and uneven terrain, and this can create a bumpy ride for the bicyclist. This is why mountain bikes are equipped with a suspension system to aid as a shock absorber. Most modern mountain bikes as of 2010 possess a dual suspension system, such as with the Mongoose XR100. Dual suspension creates shock absorption for both the front and rear of the bike. A Mongoose XR100 rear suspension can be adjusted to suit your specific riding habits.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the suspension adjustment plate. This is a metal ring that is positioned just above the spring and piston, found just below the seat.

    • 2

Turn the adjustment plate clockwise by one half turn to increase the spring tension. You'll want increased tension if you feel the bike bouncing or rocking too much while riding over uneven terrain.

    • 3

Turn the adjustment plate counterclockwise by one half turn if you want to decrease the tension in the suspension spring. If the bike feels too rigid and has little shock absorption while riding on uneven terrain, the suspension tension should be decreased.

    • 4

Test ride the bike on moderately bumpy or uneven terrain to gain a feel for your suspension. Make further adjustments clockwise or counterclockwise if needed. Keep adjusting the suspension by one half turn at a time until you feel comfortable with your suspension settings.
