How to Choose An Indoor Bicycle Trainer

Indoor bicycle trainers are great for training during the winter, plus they can double as an indoor cardio bike.

For those of you in the market to purchase one below are a few guidelines to look at before making your purchase.

NOT ALL BICYCLE TRAINERS ARE THE SAME

You basically have two options when purchasing a bicycle trainer. The first being a magnetic and the second being a fluid resistance bicycle trainer. Both are great however the magnetic trainers seem to be louder and most require that you get off your bike to adjust the resistance. My suggestion is to stick with the fluid trainers most of them don't require that you get off your bike to adjust the resistance, in addition they are quieter and produce less heat.

Another option is a roller which is a basically a treadmill for your bike. These are fun but a little tricky to get use to.

      FOLD UP OR ROLL AWAY

The roll away bike trainers tend to be bigger and bulkier, which is ideal if you don't plan to move it around much, however if you plan to set up your bike trainer temporarily in a space at home, then your best bet is the fold away.

If you get a roller your stuck most don't fold away and are a pain to store.

      MORE EXPENSIVE DOESN'T MEAN BETTER

Ive had three bike trainers and I can tell you that spending more money on a bike trainer doesn't always mean you get a better bike trainer. Before you buy, I suggest you ask the retailer to allow you to test it out before you buy. The main things you want to look for is the ability change resistance without getting off your bike and noise level.
