How to Clean Schwinn Bicycles

In order to keep a Schwinn bicycle looking and functioning its best, you should clean it regularly (frequency depends largely on how often you use the bike and where). Cleaning this brand of bicycle is fairly simple, just as it is with any other brand of bicycle. You don't need special tools or special cleaners and generally you don't need to take any parts off to clean them. What you do need is a warm and sunny day, preferably, and at least half an hour of free time.

Instructions

    • 1

Spray the tires well with a water hose. Get as much dirt off them as you can--this way dirt from the tires won't quickly get on the rest of the bicycle after you clean it.

    • 2

Prop the bicycle up against a fence, building or outdoor wall. You'll want it to be stable as you clean--the kickstand won't be sufficient for this. Alternatively you can turn it upside down, as if you were going to do maintenance on it.

    • 3

Pour warm water into a clean bucket. Add some liquid dish detergent, this doesn't have to be a particular kind or brand.

    • 4

Submerge a sponge into the bucket of warm sudsy water. Wipe down the seat and then the entire bicycle frame from the handlebars on down. Rinse extra dirt from the sponge and repeat this step until the frame is clean.

    • 5

Clean each spoke of the wheels by gently squeezing the sudsy sponge around each spoke and sliding the sponge down. Clean the rims and then rinse both the rims and the spokes with a garden hose after--this way dirty suds don't get on the tires.

    • 6

Rub the cog wheel, and chaining bolt (these are the parts the pedal and chain attaches to) and the pedals with a fresh soapy sponge and then rinse well.

    • 7

Rinse the whole bicycle with water from a garden hose. Dry the bicycle well with microfiber towels. Re-lubricate the chain at this time, if necessary.
