When learning how to do a split, it's important to first warm up with stretching exercises to avoid an injury such as pulling a muscle. After a sufficient warm-up, practice doing splits with both the right and left leg on the ground before doing it on the trampoline.

Mount the trampoline and jump lightly to feel how high you want to go. Jump with both feet. When you're in the air, separate your legs into a split position and bring them back together before you land on both feet. It is important to maintain control as you jump. If you start to lose control, jump with less force. As you continue to jump, separate your legs further until you are in a split position in the air.

Land on both feet. Jump again with the same leg in the front or you can switch legs. If you want to land on the trampoline while still in a split, keep your legs in a split position until you land. This should only be done if it is easy for you to do a split and are able to reach a full split position in the air. A side split involves that same technique, but instead of one leg in the front and one leg in the back, you jump with both legs out to the side.
