How to Set Your Idling Speed on Your Go-Kart

Small gas engines are typically associated with work because they are used on mowers and other lawn equipment. However, go-karts are also powered by small gas engines. The idle on a go-kart is the speed at which the engine runs when it is resting, and the throttle is not open. If a go-kart engine runs too high or low that it sputters and stalls while idling, then the idle speed needs to be adjusted.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the gas tank on the go-kart and make sure it has fuel in it. If it is empty or low, fill the fuel tank with gas and replace the gas cap.

    • 2

Use a screwdriver to turn the go-kart's idle adjustment screw fully to the right side.

    • 3

Start the go-kart and allow it to warm up for around five to 10 minutes.

    • 4

Turn the idle adjustment screw with the screwdriver one full rotation to the left.

    • 5

Listen to the engine. If it still seems to be running too high, turn the idle adjustment screw in one-eight turn increments to the left until the engine runs smoothly. If the go-kart engine runs slow and comes close to stalling out, turn the idle adjustment screw in one-eight turn increments to the right until it runs steady.
