How to Adjust Your Longboard to Turn

Longboard skateboards are a popular choice for riders looking for a comfortable board to ride as a mode of transportation, as opposed to performing tricks. The ability of a longboard to turn, known as carving, is determined by the tightness of the trucks, which attach the wheels to the board. A longboard that is not turning sharply enough has trucks that are too tight, and must be adjusted in order to allow the longboard to turn more easily.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the board over so the top of the board is lying flat and the wheels are facing up.

    • 2

Locate the nut at the front of the front set of trucks, the metal axles that holds the wheelsl.

    • 3

Turn the nut one full rotation counterclockwise.

    • 4

Turn the rear trucks' nut one rotation counterclockwise.

    • 5

Flip the board over and ride forward, then make a test carve.

    • 6

Adjust the tightness of the trucks one rotation at a time until you near your desired tightness. Counterclockwise turns loosen the trucks, while clockwise turns tighten the trucks.

    • 7

Turn the nuts in smaller increments to fine-tune the tightness when you near your desired looseness, until your exact requirement is met.

    • 8

Check to ensure the front trucks are equally loose or more loose than the rear trucks, as the front trucks should never be tighter than the rear trucks.
