How to Twirl a Streamer

Streamers or dance ribbons have a rod and swivel attachment that makes them easy to twirl or move. To get a good swirl going, choose a ribbon that is the appropriate length. Children and adult twirlers require different lengths of streamers. Learn how to master the basic twirl before moving on to more complicated streamer moves like the figure eight, the weave or the toss. Twirling streamers is a creative way to express yourself through low-impact dance.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the streamer by the rod in the hand with which you write. Let the streamer hang down in front of you.

    • 2

Lift the rod up about chest high, allowing the streamer to dangle down. The rod and streamer will make one long line. Move the rod slowly in a clockwise circle while letting the streamer dangle down. Do this five to 10 times to get the "feel" of the streamer's movement.

    • 3

Point the tip of the rod outward with the streamer dangling down. Together the rod and streamer will make an "L" shape. Repeat the small clockwise circles. This is a basic twirl.
