How to Make Simple Paintball Grenades

Paintball is a game played with paint markers and small-diameter paint-filled plastic balls. Many different scenarios may be played, but typically the object of a paintball game is to enter another team's territory with an objective and mark other players to tag them out of the game. Many players also use paintball grenades, which are essentially a delivery mechanism for spraying an area with marking paint.

  • Empty 20-oz. water bottle with lid
  • Scotch tape
  • Paper towel
  • Paintballs
  • Scissors
  • Baking soda
  • Vinegar

Instructions

      Fold one sheet of standard size paper towel in half. The goal is to have a sheet of towel which is doubled for strength and a size which is easier with which to work.

      Sprinkle a line of baking soda down the middle of the paper towel. The amount should be approximately two tablespoons.

      Form a packet with the paper towel. Fold one short end of the towel up about 1 inch. Begin with one of the longer sides and begin folding across to the opposite side in 1- to 1 1/2-inch increments. Once folded, apply two or three strips of tape to hold the packet closed. Tap the baking soda down and cut the packet in half to shorten it. Tape the remaining end closed.

      Remove the top from the water bottle and place 10 to 12 paintballs into the bottle. Add 1/2 cup of hot water, recap the bottle and shake. Set the bottle aside momentarily to allow the paintballs to dissolve.

      Add one half cup of vinegar to the water bottle. Cap the bottle and move to an open area outdoors.

      Remove the cap from the bottle and drop the paper towel packet into the bottle. Quickly recap and either set or toss the bottle to an open area. The vinegar and baking soda will react to form gas which will expand the bottle to the point of bursting. The result will be a dispersal of paint in much the same manner as the shrapnel from a grenade.
