Types of Jon-E Hand Warmers
-
Fuel
-
Jon-E hand warmers use naptha-based fuel or lighter fluid. This fuel is ignited on a wick with a match or lighter. The user blows out the flame, and the catalytic heating element inside the warmer generates heat for nine to 12 hours on a single fill. The fuel sold by the manufacturer is recommended for Jon-E hand warmers.
Stainless Steel
-
The case for Jon-E hand warmers is made of highly polished stainless steel and may be ornately decorated or plain in design. The stainless steel is important for its durability and because it transmits heat into the flannel bag in which the warmer is kept. The user has to hold only the bag to feel the warmth.
Sizes
-
The smaller of the standard-size warmers is 3 1/2 inches by 2 1/4 inches by 5/8 inches. The larger is 4 inches by 2 3/4 inches by 1 1/4 inches. The standard size is intended to be comfortable if used inside a smaller pocket, such as a trouser pocket, while the larger fits comfortably in the pocket of an outer jacket.
Flannel Bag
-
The Jon-E hand warmer must be used with the flannel bag it comes in or in some other kind of cloth sleeve. Using the device without the bag can cause burns. The bag also can be used to control the amount of heat generated by loosening and tightening the drawstrings.
