How to Open a Foot Locker

Whether it accompanies your child to summer camp or a college dorm, a foot locker needs to be secured and locked between uses. And it can be a source of great frustration if the lock cannot be opened. If you are sending a kid off to camp with a foot locker, make sure he knows how to operate the lock so it opens when it is time to get to his gear.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate a rectangular shape leading up to a paddle-shaped head on the front of the foot locker. If your foot locker is so equipped it has an internal lock built in.

    • 2

Insert the key provided with the locker in the key hole, and turn counterclockwise to disengage the lock bolt. Lift the lid of the foot locker. It may be sticky or require a small push to the opposite side to open.

    • 3

Examine the front and check to see if there is a bolt or lock hinge with a padlock or combination lock. If no lock is present, purchase a lock that fits the mechanism. If present, insert the padlock key into the lock and turn counterclockwise to open the lock arm. Remove the lock and open the trunk lid. If the lock is a combination lock, turn the tumblers in the proper numeric sequence to open the lock.
