How to Lock Your Foot in Soccer
Soccer requires that you lock your foot when you strike the ball with the intent of kicking it up field or scoring a goal. Locking the foot creates a flat surface, much like a golf club. This allows you to exert maximum force on the ball. Learning how to do this properly will make you a better player; not learning to do so properly before striking the ball could lead to you damaging your ankle.

1
Lift your foot off the ground. Point the toe forward, creating a line from your knee to your toes. Don't push your toes farther forward than is comfortable.
-
2
Relax your ankle and calf. The only tension in your lower leg should be that created by pushing the toes forward.
-
3
Swing your leg backward, pointing with your toe. As the toe comes forward, connect the top of the foot with the ball, keeping your toes pointed out. Continue to point after the ball leaves your foot. Your knee comes up toward your chest, causing you to hop on the other foot slightly.
