PVC Pipe Projects for the Sportsman

Outdoorsmen and sportsmen can find a lot of uses for PVC. There are many easy-to-build structures and projects that can save a sportsman time, energy and money. Most PVC projects mimic products that are available commercially. However, PVC projects are usually much less expensive and are easier to customize than commercially available products.

  1. Hunting Blind

    • Use PVC pipe to build a light-weight and portable hunting blind. For a 5-foot square blind, use 12 pieces of 5-foot long PVC pipe and connect it at all eight corners with a 3-way "LT" fitting. The fittings and the pipe are available at most hardware stores. Cover the cube with camouflage printed material. The material can either be stitched together to fit the blind or attached to the blind with PVC snap clamps.

    Fishing Rod Organizer

    • Keep your fishing rods from tipping over and tangling with a PVC rod organizer. Cut PVC into four 4-foot sections, six 7 1/2-inch sections six 4-inch sections and four 9-inch sections. Lay one 4-foot pole on the ground and cap with 90-degree elbows joints. Connect the six 7 1/2-inch sections with five "T" joints so that the open ends are all pointing in the same direction. Insert a 9-inch PVC section into the open port on each of the elbow joints. Connect the two sections together with a "T" joint. Make sure the open end of the "T" is facing straight up. Insert a 4-foot pole into each "T" joint and cap with an elbow. Insert the last 4-foot pole from elbow to elbow. Insert the six 4-inch poles into the six "T" joints and position so that a fishing rod's butt end can slide into the PVC and the top of the pole rests on the 4-foot cross bar.

    Shooting Target Holder

    • Use PVC to build a large A-frame to hold target sheets for outdoor shooting. Use a 3-way "LT" connector at the top of the "A" frame to allow for a cross bar. Cut the cross bar in half and use a 4-way "X" fitting to connect the two halves. Bolt a plastic chip bag clip to the "X" fitting to hold the target sheet. Customize the height and width of the frame to accommodate the shooter's height and target size.

    Gear Rack

    • Sportsman of all types have one thing in common, gear. Whether it is dirt biking, paintball, hunting, fishing or boating, sports come with a lot of gear. Use PVC to build a ball rack with different size shelves for different types of balls. Build a PVC mannequin to hold motor sports and paintball gear. Fishermen can build a rack to hang waders from. Kayakers can save space and protect their kayaks by building a rack big enough to store multiple kayaks in a neat stack.
