How to Customize a Switchblade

For knife collectors, switchblades represent the automatic realm on the collector's spectrum. Switchblade knives have spring-actuated mechanisms that, when activated, release the blade out from the housing at an angle, or straight up through it depending on style. If you want to customize a switchblade, consider several specialized methods to customize the knife. Switchblades are illegal in some areas. Before buying or trying to bring a switchblade into your area, check with your local law enforcement regarding the appropriate laws.

Instructions

    • 1

Bring the knife to an engraver. Much like custom monogrammed clothing or linen, get your switchblade engraved. Options include engraving on the knife blade or on the handle.

    • 2

Change the handle to a specialized material such as fossilized ivory shell or mother of pearl. If you're a hunter, consider having a bone or antler from your take turned into a switchblade's handle.

    • 3

Match the switchblade to a custom sheath. Pick out your fabric, colors and embossing.

    • 4

Mount the switchblade into a shadow-box display frame and have an engraved description of the knife placed at the bottom. Use this for displaying your switchblade.
