The Instructions for the SteriPEN Adventurer

The SteriPen Adventurer is a device made to purify water in the backcountry. The device is powered by two small CR123 batteries that power UV light bulbs. The UV rays from the bulbs kill bacteria and parasites in the water, making it safe for use. Because the device is small and built to withstand harsh conditions, it is an ideal tool for backcountry travel. Before heading off on a wild adventure, learn how to use the SteriPen for safety's sake.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the battery compartment on the bottom of the SteriPen with a small coin. Insert the two CR123 batteries into the battery housing and close the panel. Tighten the panel closed, turning the coin in the slot clockwise until tight.

Pull the lamp cover off and press the "Activation" button twice. Check that the green and white light indicators on the top of the device come on for 15 seconds. After the 15 seconds, the device is ready to purify up to 1.5 liters of water. The average water container sold in outdoor stores is between one and two liters. Look for the striation marks on the water bottle to find the 1.5 liter marks. Fill the bottle with the 1.5 liters of water from the stream or water source.

    • 3

Wait for the green and white lights to flicker. When they flicker, insert the tip of the SteriPen into the water. As the UV lamp enters the water it detects the water presence and automatically turns on. Stir the water roughly with the UV lamp until the UV lamp turns off. Look for the green LED light to come on and stay on after the UV light is off. This indicates the water is pure and ready for drinking.

Take the SteriPen out of the water, wipe off the light and push the lamp cover back on. With the cover on, press the "Activation" button three times and use the SteriPen as a flashlight when needed.
