How to Bundle Paracord

Paracord is a lightweight, strong and flexible rope that is endlessly versatile. No outdoors person should be without it. While its versatility is without question, a drawback to carrying it is the fact that it tangles easily. Carrying it in small bundles that quickly unspool when needed but stay securely together when not in use can solve that problem. Follow these steps to create a bundle that is not only compact but very functional.

Instructions

    • 1

Tie a loop in one end of the paracord. The type of loop is not important but it should be secure. The loop should be large enough to fit snuggly over the thumb.

    • 2

Hook the loop over one thumb and spread the fingers on this hand as wide as possible. Pull the paracord from the thumb down and around the little finger traveling between the ring finger and the little finger. Pull it back up and go around the index finger, again staying on the inside between the middle finger and the index finger. Follow the same inside to outside path down around the little finger and back up to the index finger continuously making this figure eight motion until approximately 18 to 24 inches of paracord remain. Keep the loop over the thumb during this entire process.

    • 3

Stop making the figure eight motion and gently grasp the center of the bundle with the opposite hand. Pull the entire bundle off of the fingers. Make sure the thumb loop is pulled off with the rest of the bundle.

    • 4

Hold the bundle firmly in one hand. Make a single wrap near the loop end of the bundle with the loose end of paracord. Make a second wrap around the bundle just slightly above the first. Wrap the remainder of paracord around the bundle progressing down the bundle. Keep the cord pulled taut as it is wrapped. Tuck the end of the paracord under the last wrap to secure it.

    • 5

Unroll the paracord by simply untucking the plain end and gently pulling from the center out. The paracord should unfold without tangles.
