How to Lubricate a Gorilla Winch
Gorilla winches are now known as Promark winches. These devices are made to provide motorized mechanical advantage to pull ATVs and boats onto trailers or out of stuck situations. Due to their exposure to grime, mud, grit or saltwater these winches require lubrication. It helps to wipe down the bushings and spool with a little degreaser prior to lubricating to make sure the lube penetrates the metal pieces. Keep the Gorilla winch lubricated to prolong the life of the device.
Things You'll Need
- Degreaser
- Rags
- Multi-purpose machine lubricant

1
Remove the plastic housing cover over the bushings and spool. Use the adjustable wrench to loosen the lock nuts on the sides of the winch to free the cover and expose the bushings and spool.
-
2
Spray degreaser onto a rag and wipe around the sides of the spool and bushings (the metal gears that help turn the spool). Wipe away any rust and grime. Let the winch dry.
-
3
Apply a generous amount of the multi-purpose lubricant to a new rag and wipe each gear on the bushings and along the edge of the spool. Do not lubricate the cable or spool itself.
-
4
Add three or four drops of the lubricant to the hook gate at the end of the cable.
-
5
Place the cover back onto the winch.
