How to Fix a Skateboard

Skateboards take a lot of beating while you perform all those cool tricks. If you are having a hard time balancing on your board then you may have loose trucks. If you are having problems turning the skateboard, then you may have tight trucks. If your skateboard is veering side to side, then one or more of your bushings are worn. To fix these common problems, read on.

  1. Balancing Issues

    • 1

      Locate the center of each truck which holds the hanger onto the base. This is known as the kingpin.

      Take a 9/16” socket wrench and tighten the kingpin.

      Replace bushings if the previous step doesn’t fix the problem.

    Turning Issues

      Locate the center of each truck which holds the hanger onto the base. This is known as the kingpin.

      Take the 9/16” socket wrench and loosen the kingpin.

      Replace the bushings if the previous step doesn’t fix the problem.

    Skateboard Veering Side to Side

    • 7

      Replace all the bushings if your skateboard will not cruise in a straight line.

      Loosen the kingpin on each truck until the nut comes off allowing you to remove the metal washer as well.

      Pull the hanger off the base and remove the two rubber bushings on each truck.

    • 10

      Purchase new replacements from a skate shop.

    • 11

      Install the new bushings in the order they were taken off.
