1
Turn the skateboard upside down and inspect the wheels and trucks carefully. If the wheels appear to be worn out or damaged, replace them. Use a wrench to unscrew the nut holding the wheel to the axle. Remove the wheel and put a new one in its place. Put the nut back on the axle and secure it firmly.
-
2
Inspect the trucks. Locate the kingpin, which is a large bolt in the center of the truck.
-
3
Remove the kingpin with the wrench or skate key. Remove the truck hanger by pulling it off the axle carefully. The truck hanger is the metal top piece that holds the axle and wheels in place.
-
4
Inspect the bushing for cracks and other damage. If it is damaged, your trucks could be off-center, leading to uneven wheels. Replace the bushing by unscrewing the nuts that attach it to the skateboard. Remove the bushing and put a new one in its place. Secure it tightly.
-
5
Reinstall the hanger and tighten the kingpin securely. Tighten the bolts of the trucks to make sure they are secure.
