How to Make Hand Warmer Heat Pouches

Hand warmer heat pouches are often used inside of gloves during the winter months to keep hands warm. You can buy hand warmer heat pouches, but they can be expensive and are made with chemicals that can be hazardous if the heat pouches are punctured. You can make your own hand warmer heat pouches with just a few materials that you can give as gifts during the coldest months of the year.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure two 4-by-4-in. squares of fleece fabric. You need squares to complete one hand warmer heat pouch, so cut four squares if you want one for each hand.

    • 2

Set two squares on top of each other, and sew around three of the sides. Begin to sew the final side, but leave 1 in. open so you can fill the pouch.

    • 3

Pour rice into each pouch. Put enough rice to fill the pouch, but leave enough room for the rice to move around slightly.

    • 4

Sew the small opening closed so the filling is sealed inside. Repeat Steps 2 through 4 for each pouch you want to make.

    • 5

Microwave each pouch for 1 to 2 minutes. Check the pouch every 30 seconds to make sure it is heating gradually. Once it's hot to the touch but not too hot to handle, place a pouch in a glove to keep the hand toasty.
