Wireless Motorcycle Radio Communication
-
Bluetooth Wireless Headsets
-
Bluetooth wireless headsets enable voice communication with any two-way radio or cell phone. There are even motorcycle helmets with built-in bluetooth headsets. Driver and passenger can talk at normal conversation levels when outside environmental noises would otherwise interfere.
Citizens Band Radio
-
Citizens band (CB) radios are used by motorcyclists for their range and lack of licensing requirements. There are 40 channels available; channel nine is reserved for emergency use only. CB radios offer line-of-sight communication at a range of one to five miles.
Two-Way FM Radio
-
Motorcyclists use two-way FM radio for their signal clarity. FM radio transmissions are based on frequency modulation or fluctuations in frequency to carry signals. This means that signal strength will not affect clarity. Two-way FM radios have a range of two miles based on line of sight.
Tip
-
Test a motorcycle radio system on the road before purchase. Some people find the communications ability more of a burden than a blessing. There is no sense in buying equipment if it does not help you on your motorcycle.
