Homemade Motorcycle Hitch

Motorcycles are fairly weak in pulling power, but they can pull small trailers if they are equipped with a hitch. Homemade motorcycle hitches take great skill in metalworking and a good understanding of your motorcycle.
  1. Definition

    • Motorcycle hitches are small metal balls that attach to your motorcycle and let you hitch your vehicle to small trailers. Making your own hitch lets you create a personalized ball perfect for your motorcycle and trailer.

    Materials

    • Making a motorcycle hitch requires a metal lathe, a strong metal and metal lathing tools, such as chisels. You will also need lubricant for your lathe. Metal lathes can get very hot and lubricating the metal during the process keeps the machine and the material from getting too hot.

    Process

    • Place your metal bar on your lathe. Use your rounding tools to get it to a basic round shape, then use your precision tools to get it to the more specific hitch shape. Find the size of your trailer hitch attachment. Measure your homemade motorcycle hitch and compare it to this size regularly to make sure you aren't making it too small. Screw your finished hitch the back of your motorcycle via a metal bar or plate.
