For many motorcycle enthusiasts, the image of a street bike is described with the classic lines of top three brands: Harley Davidson, Triumph and Indian Motorcycles. However, these bikes, which run more than $10,000, are outside the budget of many riders. Kawasaki answered the need for an inexpensive street bike with the 2003 Kawasaki Vulcan 800. It possessed the look and feel of more expensive bikes at a fraction of the cost.

    • For the 2003 model year, Kawasaki offered the Vulcan in an 800 cc engine class. The actual displacement of the 4-stroke, V-Twin engine was 805 cc with an 8-valve, single overhead cam. The engine was liquid cooled and had a digital ignition. The bore and stroke of the engine was 88 mm by 66.2 mm. The engine had a compression ration of 9.5:1.

    Chassis Specifications

    • The physical dimensions of the 2003 Vulcan 800 places it in the same class as the iconic Harley Davidson Sportster. It has a 1.625 m wheelbase and a ground clearance of 160 mm. The seat sits at 710 mm above the ground. Devoid of fluids, the motorcycle weighs in at 225 kg, with a curb weight of 244 kg. The fuel tank holds 15 liters of fuel.

    Other Specifications

    • The 2003 Vulcan has a front disc brake and a rear drum brake system. The wheel travel in the front is 5.9 inches, with 3.9-inch wheel travel in the rear. The transmission is a wet, multi-disc, manual five-speed transmission. When it came onto the market in 2003, the Kawasaki Vulcan 800 retailed for approximately $6,000.
