Raw Bicycle Engine Specifications

Raw engine specifications are important when considering a motorized addition to any bicycle. Critical specs often include engine power, attachment details and fluid capacities. Be sure installation instructions are properly followed as some bicycles require displacing the back tire before installation can commence.
  1. Installation Specs

    • Raw bicycle engines -- the Mitsubishi Encore, for example -- are fashioned to fit almost all basic off-road bikes, bicycle taxis, "beach cruisers and touring bikes," according to Bike Motor. Standard bolts are needed to attach the motor to the rear shaft and tire axel. Bike engines are pretreated with weather protection sealant and operate on standard gasoline. Installation time usually takes less than a half an hour.

    Engine Components

    • Standard bike engine components include a dual barrel carburetor, muffler, manual or automatic gear adjustments and a one-liter enclosed fuel tank. Three or four adjustable gears are common on a raw 1.785 horse power engine and strut suspension features raise the engine from the back tire to avoid contact or drag. Additionally, engagement handle operations allow users to power the motor on or off at will.

    Speed Specs

    • A fully fueled standard engine powers a bicycle at 25 MPH -- without stopping -- for a maximum of 40 miles, according to Bike Motor. Transmission adjustment buttons allow users to engage or disengage transmission and gear components at will to slow or increase speed depending upon travel terrain. Quiet rides are also guaranteed on most standard engines. Biking at 20 MPH expends as little as 68dB of engine noise.
