Trek 7100 Vs. 7200

If you are using a bicycle as your main form of transportation, you may want to consider whether a traditional bike or an electric bike is better suited to your needs. The Trek 7100 and 7200 are similar in size and design, but one is man-powered while the other has an electric motor.

    • The Trek 7100 seven-speed is available in a bright silver and metallic black version or in metallic green and metallic sand. The 7200 eight-speed is available in only one set of colors -- lava black and warm silver. Their alpha white aluminum frame sizes are similar, available in 15 inches, 17 inches, 20 inches, 22.5 inches and 25 inches.

    Technical Specifications

    • The 7100 has 700 x 35c, 300 tpi (threads per inch) tires as well as 36-hole alloy rims and a preload adjustable, 50mm travel front suspension. The 7200 has 700 x 35c H2Plus, puncture resistant tires as well as 750 36-hole rims and an adjustable, 50mm travel front suspension. The 7200 is an electric bike, so it also comes with a 350 watt rear hub motor.

    • The Trek 7200 costs more than twice as much as the 7100 -- $2,309 versus $439 (as of October 2010). They both can be purchased through the Trek website as well as in some independent bicycle stores.
