How to Bike the Greenbrier River Trail

The Greenbrier River Trail is a 78-mile-long trail in West Virginia. The trail runs along the Greenbrier River, through tunnels, fields and forests, and can be experienced from the seat of a bike. The trail can be ridden in one day, although it is long for the average cyclist. You can plan to ride the trail in two days by breaking it up at a near halfway point and camping or staying in accommodation along the trail.

      Drive two separate cars to Caldwell, West Virginia, with the assistance of another person to drive one car. Drop a car off in the town of Caldwell. Drive the alternate car north to the town of Cass.

      Begin biking the Greenbrier River Trail at the northern trailhead in the town of Cass, West Virginia. Bring sufficient amounts of food and water with you to keep your energy and hydration up while riding the trail. It is also smart to be prepared for technical bike problems, such as flat tires, with a well-equipped repair kit.

      Ride the trail until the town of Marlington, West Virginia, where you can either stop and take a break or you can stop for the day and set up camping or cabin accommodation for the night. You can also choose to ride until Watoga State Park, where you can stop for a swim or stay overnight.

      Continue the ride south and through the Droop Mountain Tunnel and then through Rennick and on to Caldwell. Keep a lookout for places to take rest stops along the river if you want to dismount your bike or have a picnic.

      Retrieve the car in Caldwell and drive north to Cass to pick up the other car.
