How to Choose a Sport Bike

Riders choose motorcycles for many different reasons. Some people want to cruise long distances, while others prefer quick starts and off-road adventure, racing or just fast, windy fun. Those who choose the sport bike for their 2-wheel experience use different criteria when choosing their bike.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand on the bike to make sure both feet easily touch the ground. You might find yourself in situations that call for you to stand, and you must be able to touch the ground on both sides to keep your balance when not in motion.

    • 2

Move the bike from side to side while standing over the seat. Hang on to the handlebars while tipping the sport bike almost to the ground. Sport bike riders tend to get a little more daring when riding, and you need to be able to pick up the bike if you lay it down. Choose the right bike weight for your strength abilities.

Start out with a sport bike that has not been modified. As you gain more experience and evaluate your limitations, you can always customize your sport bike to add speed. When you are ready to upgrade to a bigger model, selling your smaller, basic sport bike is easier. New sport bike riders look for a good solid bike on which to learn themselves.

Rent various sport bike models for a couple days each before you choose your final bike. While you can usually test drive a bike at a shop or from a previous owner, riding the bike under a number of different weather and road conditions can help you decide which might work best for you.
