How to Haul a Laser Sailboat Car Top

Laser sailboats are small, sleek watercraft designed for one or two people and speed. The Laser sailboat has a length of 13.8 feet making it suitable for most boat racks used on automobile roofs. The beam of the boat is 4.56 feet, so the car top presents a solid base to haul and transport the boat. Most aftermarket sports rack companies offer racks with boat cradles. Use these to haul and transport the Laser sailboat on the roof of cars.

Instructions

      Install a base rack, based on the rack maker's fit kit and your car's make, model and year. Install the feet-towers first and slide the cross bars over the roof of the car. Follow the individual roof rack maker's instructions for attaching to the car roof.

      Mount the boat cradles in the center of the roof rack crossbars. Unlock the skeg mechanism on the Laser sailboat and retract the skeg from the bottom of the boat into the skeg housing. The skeg is the fin that drops below the boat.

      Remove the mast on the Laser via the set-screw-cotter pin. Wrap the sail around the mast and secure with bungee straps. Slide the mast along the hull of the boat.

      Coordinate a lift to the roof rack with a friend as the boat is unwieldy. Place it onto the cradles so the hull is in the cradles and the deck is facing upward. Wrap the attachment straps up and around the boat making sure the mast is secured and tighten the boat into the rack.

      Haul the boat to your desired destination.
