How to Scuba Dive on the Holidays

Scuba diving in a tropical location allows for an up-close and personal experience with the animals living in the crystal clear waters. Adding a trip out with a scuba company to your vacation in the sun will ensure you come home with great memories, particularly if you bring an underwater camera along with you. Learning to breathe through the scuba tanks and their air-dispensing regulators can be intimidating, making it all the more important to have your first experience in scuba diving as part of a group with a professional scuba company.

Instructions

    • 1

Research available scuba companies in the area you are vacationing. Travel guides are a great resource for identifying scuba companies, as are your hotel's concierge and locals.

    • 2

Select a scuba company that advertises experiences for beginner scuba divers, where you can be sure you will be given proper help and instruction.

    • 3

Slip your arms through the straps on the backpack that attaches to the tank and hoses of your rig.

    • 4

Place your scuba mask over your eyes and nose and tighten the straps so that it is water tight.

    • 5

Place the regulator in your mouth in order to breathe underwater.

    • 6

Press the purge button, on the back of the regulator, to send air through the rig and force out any water in the system.

    • 7

Keep your upper body stiff, with your arms at your side, then kick with your fins to propel yourself through the water.

    • 8

Use the alternate regulator to allow a second swimmer to use your air supply, in the event that another swimmer runs out of air while underwater.
