It’s getting harder and harder to make a skateboard edit stand out. We mean, a skate edit doesn’t have to stand out to be good, but for us to bother your fine, educated eyes with something, it’s got to be a little different.

The world of skateboarding knows this, and for some time people have been putting creative edits out, and it’s brilliant. For a while, it seemed like every week a skate edit would land that would see our jaw drop to the floor.

But there’s a problem.

What happened when alternative gets so omnipotent, that it becomes the norm? It’s like with tattoos. Back when you were an itch in your dads pants, not that many people had tattoos, and those who did stood out as inked, feral beasts.

But now? Every fucker has a sleeve of tattoos because David Beckham made it popular, so people followed. Fuck, the guy who works in TopMan and can tell you the difference between velvet and velour is covered in ink. And that’s fine. That’s good. But…

There was a point to this once. Ah yes, that’s it. When everybody is trying to be different, different becomes common, making it impossible to stand out. Skateboarding is no different.

So, how can a skate edit stand out from the pack now? Fancy Lad have found the solution: go absolutely nuts. Don’t just think outside the box. Take the box, fill it with blancmange, tell your nan you’re marrying it, and tre-flip over it with a skateboard you’ve cut in two and covered in fairly lights. It’s no surprise it’s backed by Adult Swim, really.
