1
Check the fuel level meter while riding the Yamaha snowmobile if you're unsure as to how much fuel you have left in the tank. Check the meter while the snowmobile is stopped and level if you want to obtain the most accurate reading and think the readings you've been getting aren't accurate. There are often eight segments on the gauge. When just one segment is left, the warning light and buzzer operate.

2
Turn off the engine and fill the tank if the fuel level is low. Keep snow and ice out of the tank. Remember that fuel expands as it heats, so stop filling when the automatic fuel filler shuts off, or the fuel reaches the bottom of the filler spout if the fuel spills out while using the snowmobile. Close the fuel tank cap by turning it clockwise.

3
Check the fuel filler cap and seal for damage if you continue to encounter fuel problems. Check the tank itself for damage, cracks and leakage. If the snowmobile has been in an accident, perform a thorough visual inspection of the tank. Dents can become weaknesses over time. Flaking paint can allow corrosion and leaks to be introduced.

4
Monitor the fuel level warning indicator when operating the snowmobile too. If the lights flash, a self-diagnosis has uncovered a fault in the system. Faults can include disconnected coupling and broken leads. Inspect the line between the tank and engine for problems and replace it if necessary.
