How to Bet a Superfecta

Decades ago a bettor only had three different types of wagers--Win, Place or Show. Modern racetrack management has expanded the exotic wagering menu to include trifectas, superfectas, pick six and beyond. To cash a superfecta ticket, the bettor needs to pick the first four finishers in the exact order. Read on to learn how to bet a superfecta.

      Purchase a track program or a racing form at the track or an off-track simulcast facility.

      Determine which races have the superfecta bet offered.

      Read the racing form or track program and determine the horses likely to perform well.

      Write down the finishing order of your horse selections.

      Walk to a betting window with at least 10 minutes to post time, more if there are long lines.

      Decide how much you want to bet.

      Speak clearly to the ticket clerk. Always say the track name first followed by the race number, followed by the bet amount and followed by the word "superfecta." Say the number of the horses that will come in places one through four, saying the word "with" in between each one.

      Provide ticket clerk with your money.

      Examine your ticket for errors prior to leave the ticket counter no matter how long the line is behind you. Alert ticket clerk if there are any errors before walking away from the ticket counter.
