1
Decide if you want a young prospect or a horse already racing. If you want to see profits early, go with a horse already racing or about to start racing. Young horses take lots of time and money before they are ready for their first race.
-
2
Go to a racehorse auction to look at and buy a racehorse. You can also visit a racetrack and talk to owners and trainers. They will know of many horses for sale and what their histories are.
-
3
Find a barn, trainer, rider and jockey for the horse. If you have your own barn, you will have to find a location with a practice track to train and exercise your horse. If your barn is close to the racetrack, you can haul the horse to the racetrack every morning to exercise him.
-
4
Allow the trainer freedom to make decisions in the best interest of the horse. If you don't have any experience in horseracing, hire a trainer who is very experienced. They will know what to do with the horse and how to manage the horse's career. The decisions are up to you, but the trainer can advise you.
-
5
Supervise as much or as little as you want in the training and exercising of the horse. You can be present for every ride to see how the horse progresses, or you may choose to just watch the races in which the horse is entered.
