How to Watch Spring Training Fielding Practice

Watching a professional team during Spring training sets you up for a great season of Major League Baseball. You get to see your favorite ballplayers practice and learn with their fellow teammates. It's a great way to spend a week's vacation. The tricks to watching Spring training are described in the following steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Find out where your favorite Major League team's Spring practice takes place. Most teams begin their first full-squad practice in late February, but check with your favorite team's web site for details.

    • 2

Figure out when you want to arrive and watch practice. There is no admission charge to see the teams practice.

    • 3

Arrive with your sunscreen, money for souvenirs, camera and autograph book or baseball cards.

    • 4

Wear loose fitting cotton clothes, the team's t-shirt with shorts and tennis shoes so you're comfortable and showing your team spirit and support. Don't forget to wear the team's hat as well.

    • 5

Most practices start at 9 a.m., so be smart and arrive before then to catch players for autographs.

    • 6

Go to the practices more than once. Each day you attend practice will be different, and you will spot your favorite players on alternate days you attend.

    • 7

Schedule your day so you can catch a bit of everything--batting practice, fielding practice and listening to the coaches' instructions. Don't forget to visit the bullpen where you can watch your favorite pitcher through his curves and fastballs.
