NFL Players With Degrees

Whether they choose to obtain their degree before joining the National Football League or decide to pursue it after turning pro, many NFL players have obtained a bachelor's or master's degree. Since NFL players are role models for many people young and old, having a degree is a good motivator not only for the players but also for their fans who might decide to further their own education.
  1. Criminal Justice

    • Bryan Anderson played college football for the University of Pittsburgh. He graduated with a degree in justice Studies before being drafted by the Chicago Bears, where he was an offensive guard. Also, Jim Newton graduated from Utah State with a degree in criminal justice before becoming a tackle for the Indianapolis Colts.

    Sociology

    • Andrew Radovich, a tackle for the Minnesota Vikings, took part in the NFL's Continuing Education Program to get his degree in sociology from the University of Southern California. Fred Robbins obtained his degree in sociology from Wake Forest University while he was an active defensive tackle for the New York Giants. Casey Fitzsimmons got his sociology degree from Carroll College before becoming a tight end for the Detroit Lions. His teammate, Terrence Holt, did the same from North Carolina State before becoming a safety.

    Business

    • Billy Bajema used the NFL Continuing Education Program to get his degree in general business from Oklahoma State University while playing tight end for the St. Louis Rams. Leigh Bodden got his business management degree from Duquesne before becoming a defensive back for the Cleveland Browns. While Donald Mitchell, a former cornerback for the Dallas Cowboys, completed his degree in business before joining the team. Tony Richardson graduated from Webster University with a master's of business administration before becoming a running back for the Kansas City Chiefs.

    Kinesiology

    • Todd Johnson was a safety with the St. Louis Rams when he used the benefits of the NFL Continuing Education Program to obtain is degree in applied physiology and kinesiology. Fred Wakefield graduated with a degree in kinesiology from the University of Illinois before becoming a defensive end for the Arizona Cardinals.

    Finance and Economics

    • While playing as a safety for the Carolina Panthers, Nate Salley completed his degree in economics from Ohio State University using the NFL Continuing Education Program. Matt Forte, a running back for the Chicago Bears, also completed his degree in finance using the NFL Continuing Education Program. His degree was obtained from Tulane University.
