NFL Spectator Rules

The NFL instituted rules for spectators in 2008 to create an environment that is family-friendly and safe for anyone who attends a game. These rules apply to the ticket holder and any guests who might be using their tickets, encouraging season-ticket holders to be careful when reselling their unused tickets.
  1. Notification

    • Every NFL team notified its season-ticket holders of the new rules. This was done in the form of mailed newsletters, news releases, signs at the stadium and postings on the team's website.

    Disruptive Behavior

    • Fans will be removed for behavior that is disruptive, unruly or abusive to other spectators. This includes foul language and any verbal or physical of harassment of fans, especially fans of the opposing team. Spectators can also be removed for excessive intoxication if it leads to inappropriate behavior.

    Interference

    • Interfering with the play of the game in any manner will be grounds for ejection. This includes running onto the field or throwing objects onto the field of play.

    Enforcement

    • Each stadium is equipped with a hotline that fans can call to report problems with fellow spectators. In addition, security personnel patrols the stadium looking for fans who are breaking the NFL's spectator rules.

    Penalties

    • Fans violating the spectator code of conduct will be ejected from the game and might lose future season-ticket and parking-pass privileges for repeat offenses or severe infractions. Spectators might also be prevented from entering the stadium if they have been intoxicated or unruly during pregame tailgating in the parking lot.
