How to Measure Ice Skating Dresses

Ice skating dresses are available in many colors and styles to match the skater's style and choice of music selection for a performance. Dresses are usually a one- or two-piece style with a detachable skirt. The fit of a skater's dress should allow for full movement in her performance without binding or moving out of place to distract the athlete.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay the ice skating dress front side up on a table. Remove the skirt if it is a two-piece dress so that only the leotard portion is on the table.

    • 2

Place the tip of a cloth measuring tape on the center of the left shoulder of the dress. Stretch the measuring tape down to the crotch line and flip the dress over so the front is on the table. The measuring tape will be underneath the dress front. Stretch the measuring tape up to meet the tip on the center of the left shoulder. This is the torso measurement.

    • 3

Place a cloth measuring tape around the fullest part of the dress bust to form a circle. Spread the dress on a tabletop and use the widest portion at the bust line to take the measurement. This is the bust line measurement.

    • 4

Place the measuring tape around the smallest area of the dress near the center from front to back for the waist measurement.

    • 5

Stretch the measuring tape around the dress at the fullest area in the rear end. This is the hip measurement.

    • 6

Measure the skater's torso, bust, waist and hips to match them to their correct dress size.
