Calf Tie Down Roping Events in Texas

Calf roping, the skill once used by cowboys to tie calves down for branding, has long been a part of rodeos. Although branding isn't part of the rodeo event, chasing down the calf on horseback, roping it and then tying its feet together to keep it down, still is. The event is popular with both male and female competitors. Several Texas associations sponsor a large number of calf-roping events, either as stand-alone events or as part of multi-event rodeos. The events usually offer money payouts to winners. Some are part of larger association-wide competitions for placement by money won, leading to championships.
