How to Enter a Bull Riding Event

Bull riding is the most dangerous and probably the most popular rodeo event. If you're getting started in competitive bull riding, you may be looking for events to enter. Once you complete the paperwork, prepare yourself and your equipment and get ready to ride.

Instructions

    • 1

Join a rodeo association. Local, county, state and national organizations exist, which give you access to participate in certain rodeos.

    • 2

Find a bull riding event to enter. The competition is most likely part of a full rodeo. A city chamber of commerce typically organizes and funds local rodeos. Check with western clothing stores and stables for competitions.

    • 3

Fill out necessary applications. Be sure to submit them by the date required.

    • 4

Pay any entry fees. The money usually goes toward prize money for the bull riding competition.

    • 5

Assemble your clothing. The necessities include a glove and bull riding vest for protection. Most riders also use spurs and chaps, which can help the rider grip the bull. A helmet, face guard and mouth guard are optional protective items.

    • 6

Gather your equipment. You need a bullrope, which is a thick rope with a cowbell attached to it and is the only thing the rider can hold. Rosin is needed to help you hold onto the bull rope because it provides a sticky grip.
