How to Sanction a Professional Bull Riding Event
The major professional associations which sanction bull riding are the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) or Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association's (PRCA) Xtreme Bulls Tour. There are also smaller organizations throughout the country. If your event will focus more on the bulls than the riders, American Bucking Bull Incorporated (ABBI) is another option for sanctioning. (See Reference 1) Weigh all factors including scheduling and prize money considerations.

1
Familiarize yourself with the rules for producers for all the professional associations you are considering. Each will specifically lay out the requirements to receive professional sanctioning including minimum prize money, required stock providers, and rules for competition. (See Reference 2)
-
2
Call each organization for further information on sanctioning. One important consideration is scheduling; your event will likely not succeed if it is scheduled at the same time as other events. Find out if your event has a chance to achieve sanctioning with each group as most require approval from a governing board of directors. (See Reference 3)
-
3
Consider the options. Each organization has a minimum prize money requirement so consider carefully if you can afford to host each group. If certain stock providers are required, contact those in your area for quotes to ensure the numbers will meet your budget.
-
4
Complete required paperwork. Once your decision is made, there will be approval forms to be completed before the association will agree to sanction your event. Along with the necessary paperwork, be prepared to pay sanctioning fees to the organization.
-
5
Follow up with the association to ensure that all requirements are being met both before, during, and after the event. Failure to follow rules can lead to fines and can jeopardize future sanctioning.
